The meal includes a toast set with jam, Bologna pasta, and a thick-cut pork chop sandwich. The pork chop sandwich is fried to be thick and tender, the pasta is a bit salty but passable, and the overall dining quality is acceptable.
The dining environment of the restaurant is comfortable, but some service experiences affected the overall atmosphere.
The service was indifferent and slow to respond, especially regarding the cleanliness of the coffee cups. Although they were replaced, there was no proper apology, which affected the dining experience.
The day before starting work, we arranged to take a simple stroll around Taipei. My daughter said she wanted to watch a movie, so we came to our favorite place, Honghui. We've eaten at Komeda in Japan and Taiwan before and found the dining environment very comfortable, and the food decent, so before the movie, we decided to grab a bite to eat. 😋
When we arrived, it was full, so we filled out a waiting list. After a while, 3-4 groups of guests left, and their tables were cleaned, but no one came to call our number. At one point, we wondered if anyone saw us at the entrance because the serving area is indeed blocked by a wall. I kindly asked a staff member, but received a cold response telling me to wait at the entrance. We waited about 10 more minutes before someone finally came out to call our number, which left a somewhat negative impression.
Today, besides ordering coffee, we ordered three main dishes, including jam toast set, Bolognese pasta, and thick-cut pork chop sandwich. By the time we arrived, it was already past 11:00, so there was no breakfast drink offer with the toast (which is really a good deal, and they don’t skimp on the toast). 🥹
After about 5 minutes, the coffee ☕️ was brought over, but we noticed that the edge of the cup was very dirty. It wasn’t just unclean; it showed signs of wear from being used over time. After thinking for a bit, my husband decided to mention it. The staff member A, upon hearing this, seemed unsure how to handle it and said he would ask someone. After some discussion at the serving area, he came back to say they’d replace the cup. He took the items back to exchange the cup. Honestly, I felt this was handled okay, but I thought the staff member A could have just taken it back directly (but I thought he might be new or maybe my husband's tone made him think we wanted other compensation). Since we work in the food service industry, I can understand, but when the staff member returned with the coffee, there was no apology, just an explanation that it was due to wear. At that moment, I felt the response wasn’t very good; they should apologize to the customer about the cup's condition and say they would replace it, rather than expect the customer to accept a cup with stains. Later, we also discovered dried coffee stains on the cup, unsure if they were left from the pour or if it wasn’t cleaned properly. At this point, the entire dining experience felt quite poor as it seemed they hadn’t taken note after our feedback, and since the service was so indifferent throughout, I chose not to follow up with cleaning it myself. However, I won’t come back to this restaurant again.
As for the food, it was still pretty good. It was my first time trying the sandwich and pasta. The pork chop sandwich was quite thick and tender, while the pasta was standard but a bit salty. The jam paired with thick toast was delicious, and my daughter happily spread it herself. 🥳
