Taoyuan Fuxing District - Jiao Ban Mountain Cuisine. In addition to local Taiwanese delicious snacks, they also sell peach smoothies!
On weekends, after hiking "Taman Mountain" near Lala Mountain, we went back to the Jiao Ban Mountain business district to enjoy dinner. This snack shop has high ratings on Google Maps, and there are many options for dishes:
📍 Peach Smoothie NT$50
🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑
It's on the sweeter side, with a rich peach aroma. The shop uses real peach pulp to make the juice, but the strong aroma might give the impression of added flavoring. Overall, it's tasty and very cheap at 50 dollars a cup!
📍 Crispy Fried Shrimp NT$100
🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗
The shrimp is fried until crispy and can be eaten with the shell. The abundance of Thai basil adds a rich flavor. This portion is a great value at just 100 dollars.
📍 Braised Tofu NT$180
🌕🌕🌕🌕🌘
The tofu is coated with flour and fried first and is made with yellow egg tofu, which has a soft texture. Lots of green onion, garlic, onion, and Thai basil add aroma and flavor, all thickened with a braised sauce that has great depth.
📍 Pickled Vegetable Omelet NT$100
🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑
The pickled vegetables aren't too salty, and the egg is cooked just right. The egg flavor is a bit light, but the taste is balanced. However, this dish feels slightly overpriced at 100 dollars.
📍 Stir-Fried Fresh Mushrooms NT$180
🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑
The mushrooms are very fresh and in generous portions, but using braised sauce makes it feel a bit greasy. This also features green onion, garlic, onion, and Thai basil for flavor, so it's a bit pricey.
📍 Fried Stinky Tofu NT$60
🌕🌕🌕🌖🌑
This stinky tofu is unique; the sauce includes doubanjiang, a combination not commonly found. The Taiwanese pickles lack a bit of sourness and the stinky tofu itself is somewhat bland. However, it's fried perfectly—not too dry or too wet.
📍 Bamboo Shoot Soup (Small) NT$50
🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗
This bamboo shoot soup is highly recommended! The broth is indeed very good, and the whole bowl is filled with bamboo shoots; the flavor is rich. Unfortunately, there are no meat ingredients, but the shop notes it is made with chicken bones, which is recommended to try.
📍 Stir-Fried Betel Nut Flower NT$180
🌕🌕🌕🌕🌖
This was my first time trying betel nut flower, and its unique aroma and texture are really special. It’s crunchy like shredded cabbage but also has a bit of the chewiness of enoki mushrooms, stir-fried with green onion and onion, making it aromatic and flavorful.
📍 Cabbage NT$100
🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑
The cabbage is fresh and sweet with a nice crunch, but this dish is quite ordinary without any distinguishing features.
📍 Shrimp with Soft Egg NT$150
🌕🌕🌕🌑🌑
We initially ordered scallion egg, but the shop made a mistake. I found this dish a bit oily overall, resulting in a greasy aftertaste. The shrimp is the common processed variety, which I wouldn't recommend.
▶️ Environment
🔹 The indoor space is large, and some tables have induction cookers for hot pot.
🔹 The decor is very Taiwanese, with plastic chairs typical of local eateries.
🔹 Cutlery must be self-served.
▶️ Helpful Reminders
🔹 Fill out the order form first, and settle the bill after eating.
🔹 Only cash is accepted.
▶️ Overall Evaluation
🔹 The boss and staff are very friendly and will come to chat with customers, creating a warm and homey feeling. The local vibe is strong, like having a meal at home. The snack dishes are of a decent standard, with ample seasoning and spices. Prices aren't excessive, and the four of us ate well and felt full! If we come back, we would definitely want to eat here again!
