I only found out that this is a traditional Indonesian snack after seeing a video online introducing these cakes.
After seeing it once, I was craving to find a place that sells moon cakes immediately.
I was super happy to find a shop in Kaohsiung, near the Kaohsiung train station.
The owner and staff are all Indonesians, and there are many exotic snacks on this street.
They usually only operate on weekends, but the business is booming, with many Taiwanese and foreigners alike! When I went during the New Year period, I was informed that I had to wait for 3 hours, as the meals are made to order.
During the wait, you can take a stroll around the nearby area (like in the high flow).
I heard some people say that moon cakes are quite expensive, but let me tell you, there's really no need to worry because the portion is not suitable for one person to eat alone! Please remember to bring a few friends to share; one or two pieces per person is enough to satisfy, and it’s quite filling. Especially because the black glutinous rice I chose is a starch combined with starch, you really can’t underestimate the portion; it can get a bit overwhelming for one person.
Also, I recommend enjoying it while it’s hot because when it cools down, it becomes more oily.
