The beef soup is clear, sweet, and smooth, while the beef is tender but not remarkable. The braised meat rice is sticky and fragrant, the fried noodles have a great wok hei, and the stinky tofu is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with a nice texture.
The interior space is spacious and comfortable, with ample air conditioning and a clean environment, making the dining experience enjoyable.
In terms of service, the dishes were served quickly after ordering, and the overall efficiency was good, but there was a lack of individual care in service.
This time in Anping, I wanted to drink beef soup. There are quite a few well-known shops in the area, such as Wen Zhang, A-Cai, and Er-Niu. I originally aimed for A-Cai, but unfortunately, by the time I got there, they had already sold out, so I had to switch to Er-Niu.
The braised pork over rice was pretty good, with a slightly sticky texture and a pleasant flavor. The beef soup leaned towards a light sweetness; it was easy to drink, and the beef was tender, but nothing particularly impressive—just "not bad, drinkable" quality. The fried noodles were surprisingly good, with a nice wok hei and a generous portion.
What impressed me the most was the stinky tofu, which had a crispy exterior and soft interior, providing a nice layered texture when bitten into.
Overall, the quality at Er-Niu is okay; it didn’t disappoint, but with so many options for beef soup in Anping, I probably wouldn't choose it as my first option unless there’s a particular reason.
Environment
The space inside the restaurant is very large, accommodating a lot of people, and there's air conditioning available! The seating is not cramped, making it very comfortable, and unlike traditional establishments, the floors are very clean, which makes dining feel very pleasant.
Dishes
📍 Beef Soup 💰120
One of the must-try items when in Tainan. Beef soup can be found everywhere and generally tastes quite similar. I think the main difference lies in the beef—its tenderness and the seasoning prepared by the restaurant greatly influence the quality of the beef soup. The beef soup here has a sweet broth, tender beef, and a generous amount of meat, making it worth trying.
📍 Sesame Oil Beef 💰250
A very unique dish, it has a soft and chewy texture with no fishy smell, making it very palatable. It resembles fish maw in taste. For those who haven’t tried it, it’s worth a shot—you won’t be disappointed.
📍 Salted Egg Cabbage 💰100
This dish is quite generous with the salted eggs 🥚, almost outnumbering the cabbage. After finishing, the only word to describe it is "salty." It’s hard to eat without rice.
Parking
There is a parking lot right next door 🅿️💰60/hr. If you find that too expensive, there is a whole row of parking spaces across the street 💰20/hr. The street is long with plenty of parking spots, so it depends on whether you have done good deeds beforehand!
Service
After finding a spot and picking up the menu, you can start ordering directly. The speed of service is very quick, without any special service features.
