Pork Tamago Onigiri is an Okinawa pork and egg rice ball specialty store. This branch is located in Hakata, Fukuoka. It is also one of the only two branches in Fukuoka, near Kushida Shrine.

I have eaten Okinawa pork and egg rice balls in Taipei before and I thought it was delicious. If I have the opportunity to come to Japan, even though Okinawa is not the birthplace of my fortune, I still want to try it.

This branch does not have a lot of seats, only three tables for two and one table for six. However, we visited at 8:30 on a Tuesday morning and there were no other customers except us. It was great to have the entire space to ourselves!

The clerk spoke good English and kindly recommended our onigiri items. We finally chose two recommended flavors: Hakata Men-Tama, Aji Tartar, and a cup of lemon black tea ( Lemon Tea)

Hakata mentaiko rice ball ¥700
It feels like it is a Hakata-limited item. In addition to a piece of mentaiko egg roll, there is also a piece of lunch meat, some pickles and sesame leaves. The overall taste is quite salty, but the sesame leaves balance the taste. It is delicious, but not very special. (Maybe it’s because I’ve eaten too many mentaiko in the past few days in Fukuoka😂)

Fried horse mackerel tartar rice ball ¥700
The fried fish inside is a huge piece with no bones at all. There is also egg tartar salad, shredded cabbage, a piece of luncheon meat and a piece of fried egg. It is super rich and filling. It is very satisfying to have this for breakfast!
Compared to the Hakata mentaiko flavor, I recommend the fried horse mackerel tartare!

Lemon black tea ¥300 (original price is ¥350, but you can get a ¥50 discount if you order it with rice balls)
It's just sugar-free black tea with lemon slices. It's not the lemon black tea from McDonald's in Taiwan. Hahaha. I think it's quite ordinary. It's for thirst quenching. You can order it or not. There's also free water in the store.

Overall, although the price is not very cheap, the taste is pretty good. I think it is suitable as a breakfast option. I recommend you to try it!
