A self-roasting specialty coffee shop founded by a type designer and a Japanese braid artist ☕️

When planning to visit the Tanabata Festival in Asagaya, I searched for a nice specialty coffee shop nearby and came across recommendations for this place. The cute and unique fonts on their official website immediately caught my attention.

In reality, it’s a very small shop, with seating for about four people max. They have a wide selection of coffee beans, with a variety of origins and roasting levels. They only choose green coffee beans rated 86 or higher, and roast them in-store using Giesen and Fuji roasting machines.

One of the shop owners is a graphic and type designer, so there are many posters designed by them in the shop, as well as a collection of historical materials related to typography. The other owner is a traditional Japanese braid artist, and there are also products on display that showcase the variations of braided items.

Additionally, they often hold coffee roasting classes of different levels and experiences for making braids, which sound very interesting.

I visited on a whim this day, and the coffee shaved ice looked incredibly delicious, though it requires a reservation in advance (the owner mentioned it's made with a very meticulous process). The hand-dripped coffee I ordered had a high quality, with clear aroma and flavor, and it has become one of my favorite spots!
