【Foodholic Nako @ Jeju Island, Korea】

“Pungwon Restaurant” is located on the largest outer island of Jeju Island—Udo, on the western side of Udo. It is said to be one of the only two restaurants on Udo that sell Hallasan fried rice, so I often see this place mentioned in vlogs or blogs about Udo.

We arrived around 11 AM, and there were only 1-2 groups of customers inside, so we didn’t have to wait at all! Even when we finished eating just after noon and left the restaurant, it was still not full, so I’m not sure if it was off-season or if we just ate early. I noticed that others who introduced this place said there was a line.

As soon as we sat down, they served us a bunch of side dishes, and my favorite among them was the sweet eomuk (fish cake), which was delicious. I almost finished the whole plate! The other side dishes were okay.

We ordered two servings of spicy stir-fried black pork for ₩16,000 each. (I originally wanted to order one serving of spicy stir-fried black pork and one serving of spicy stir-fried squid, but the staff mentioned that the squid is very spicy, and since I can't handle spicy food well, I decided against it.)

The black pork was cut into slices, with a good balance of lean and fatty pieces, and it was mildly spicy, so eating it with the dipping sauce and garlic slices was fantastic.

Additionally, we ordered the highlight of this meal—the Hallasan fried rice for ₩5,000 per serving. When there are just a few pieces of pork left, the staff will chop the pork into small pieces and stir-fry it with the original sauce to make fried rice, and there’s also a cheese omelet on the side. Overall, I think it’s worth ordering, and it’s quite tasty, making for a great meal ending! Plus, the cooking process includes an explanation of how Jeju Island was formed, which is quite interesting! (There was a staff member who spoke Chinese, so I understood everything!)

P.S. I recommend that if two people are dining, it’s sufficient to order one serving of fried rice, as the previous portion of black pork is already quite substantial, and you will feel very full after finishing everything.
