Street Food | NT$70

AI Spot Summary

The mackerel soup has a good taste, and the fish meat is served in large pieces, but there are quite a few bones, so be careful. The minced pork rice is typically sweet, which is characteristic of the southern region.

The environment is poor, and the garbage and smoke smell affect the dining experience.

A small shop without a sign, located about a 3-minute walk from the Houjing MRT station in Kaohsiung. There are relatively few snack shops nearby, and since we needed some savory food before heading to our next destination, we randomly chose this place which appeared to have good reviews on Google. We simply ordered two items.

▪️Milkfish belly soup $100
I originally wanted to order the bass soup, but it was sold out, so I chose this soup instead. The flavor was quite good, although the milkfish itself has many bones, and even though it's from the belly, there were still a lot of small bones to be careful of while eating. The fish meat was served in large pieces.
▪️Braised pork rice (large) $40
Seeing that others ordered the small bowl and it looked a bit small, I opted for the large bowl for two of us to share. It had the typical flavor you would find in southern small restaurants, leaning towards the sweeter side.

Overall, I think the food was fine in terms of taste, but... the environment was really terrible. I can overlook some litter, but the cooking area and condiment station were not maintained well at all. Additionally, there was a persistent smell of smoke and betel nut in the air that made me feel quite nauseous... Looking at the reviews, it seems to be a well-loved local spot, but our experience that day was truly disappointing. For your reference.
