Osaka Shinsekai - This small Daruma skewered food shop is a great stop if you're in the area near Tsutenkaku to experience authentic Osaka-style skewers!
▶️ Dining Experience
Upon entering, the staff kindly guided us to our seats, and a Chinese menu was available.
Ordering was easy as we could point at the menu 😆, and we settled the bill after our meal.
We ordered a total of:
🔹 Wagyu beef
🔹 Rice cake
🔹 Shiitake mushrooms
🔹 Chicken (karaage)
🔹 Chicken skin
🔹 Fried shrimp
First off, my favorites were the fried shrimp and chicken; the meat was juicy and not dry, perfectly fried.
Next was the Wagyu beef, which had a crispy fried coating outside and cubed beef inside—really unique in taste.
The fried rice cakes and shiitake mushrooms with chicken skin felt quite oily to me, overall mediocre without any standout features.
Additionally, I ordered a cup of oolong tea, served in an Asahi bottle, which was quite special 😆.
Later, the staff generously treated us to two pieces of fried lotus root and used Google Translate to communicate with us, which was really cute!
▶️ Environment
🔹 The store is small and a bit cramped, with a total of 10 counter seats.
🔻 The oil and smoke smell is quite strong.
🔹 If you don't order drinks, they provide cold water, which is nice!
▶️ Helpful Reminders
🔹 After entering, the staff will give you a wet towel, which is helpful since eating the skewers will make your hands oily!
🔹 There is a dipping sauce on the table that has a somewhat sour taste.
🔹 It's recommended to choose seats on the right side of the entrance; the left side is near the frying oil, which has a very strong smell (we sat there and really couldn't stand it 🥹).
▶️ Overall Evaluation
Don't order too much at once; it's better to treat it as small snacks, as eating too much can get overly greasy and uncomfortable. Some items were delicious, and I recommend the fried shrimp and karaage chicken! For two people, we spent a total of 1727 yen, which is about 380 TWD—quite affordable!
