"The 'Jerry Bread' stands out with its sea salt butter roll and mentaiko French bread, providing a delightful surprise. Other items like the canelé and peanut French bread also perform well, showcasing uniqueness and sincerity. However, the German pudding and Hokkaido Guda cheese are somewhat bland and fail to meet expectations for a surprise."
Located on Guanxin Road in Hsinchu, "Jerry Bakery" boasts titles such as "Hsinchu's best bakery" and "ladies' bakery," making it one of the top contenders in Hsinchu's bakery scene. This store has long been loved by professionals and their spouses from the Hsinchu Science Park, with nearly everyone carrying a bag, and there is a continuous line of customers. Although there are parking spots by the curb at the entrance, they are hard to come by, so it is recommended to park nearby and walk to get your pastries.
A must-try signature item is the legendary "Sea Salt Butter Roll." In the past, I always took it home to reheat. Although I found it delicious, I didn't feel the "ultimate" wow factor as described. This time, I finally got to try it fresh out of the oven on-site, and I dove right in—wow, it was on a completely different level! The outer layer is crispy, while the inside is soft and springy; combined with a hint of salt from the sea salt and the rich butter aroma, the layers are excellent, and the best part is that it isn't greasy at all. You must eat it fresh to experience its true essence, and immediately after finishing, I regretted not buying a few more 🥹.
Another popular item is the "Mentaiko French Bread." They generously spread the mentaiko sauce, making it salty and rich, perfectly moistening the bread without making it dry. For mentaiko lovers, this one definitely deserves a spot on the repeat purchase list (although I personally don't particularly like mentaiko, hahahaha) 🥖.
"Canelé": Performs well, with a slightly crispy shell and a moist interior filled with vanilla seeds. The sweetness is just right, and the size and price are quite friendly.
"Peanut French Bread": This is my personal favorite. The peanut butter is rich and smooth, served in a generous portion, sure to make any peanut lover go crazy 🥜🥜.
"German Pudding" and "Hokkaido Cheese," the former is smooth and delicious, while the latter is somewhat ordinary, with a lighter filling that doesn't quite meet expectations for a rich surprise.
"Croissants": The layers and aroma are standard; they are decent but not particularly outstanding 🥐.
I actually tried other items, but they didn’t leave much of an impression. In summary, "Jerry Bakery" definitely has what it takes to remain at the top of Hsinchu's bakery scene. The signature freshly baked Sea Salt Butter Roll and Mentaiko French Bread are highlights you must try. If you're near Guanxin Road, you might as well experience the legendary "ladies' bakery" yourself!
