📍 At the Douhua dessert shop in the Yan San Night Market, there are various items available, including burned herbal jelly and shaved ice.
🍽️ Environment
The seating can accommodate about 20 people, and the overall environment is quite clean, although the seating space is not very large. The business is generally good on weekdays, but there is usually no need to line up. However, during festivals like the Winter Solstice, there might be a small queue, which can be resolved in about 10 minutes.
✨ Dishes
▪️ Red Bean Sesame Rice Balls $90
It’s customary to buy rice balls during the Winter Solstice. In addition to red bean soup, options also include peanut soup or a combination of burned herbal jelly and rice balls. This choice was red bean soup with small rice balls and two sesame rice balls. The portion is moderate, and for 90 NT dollars, it’s not particularly cheap. The red bean soup is on the sweeter side, and the red beans are cooked quite soft; the small rice balls and sesame rice balls perform as expected. Overall, it’s pretty good to enjoy a bowl in winter. Here’s an alternative way to enjoy it: for friends who drink whiskey, adding a little to the red bean soup can balance out the sweetness. Additionally, if you add sherry cask whiskey, it will release tropical fruit flavors when heated, elevating the entire dish.
✨
In conclusion, the items at Xinying Douhua are quite tasty. Personally, I often buy the burned herbal jelly, which is not too sweet, and it also comes with hard peanuts, which is a nice addition. On a side note, there are many shops nearby in Xinying; I’m not sure if they are related businesses.🤣
