Located on Tanukikoji, this Hokkaido chain miso ramen shop is open until midnight, making it very convenient for a late-night meal during your travels. The restaurant has a rich tonkotsu flavor, and the ordering process involves using a ticket machine at the entrance to pay and obtain a meal voucher, which you then give to the server. Ice water is self-service.
Many Google reviews mention that the food is too oily and salty, so I was curious whether I could finish my meal. Not knowing what authentic Hokkaido miso tastes like, my travel companion and I ordered regular miso ramen and special miso ramen.
The regular miso ramen comes with: finely chopped green onions, chashu, spinach, and nori.
The special miso ramen includes: thinly sliced green onions, chashu, spinach, and nori.
I have to admit it is indeed oily 🤣, but the saltiness is acceptable. The miso is fragrant, and it's actually quite a delightful bowl of noodles. Eating it on a chilly day is very comforting. The chashu is on the sweeter side, but surprisingly, it pairs nicely with the oily and salty broth. However, the most beloved ingredient is definitely the green onions, especially the thinly sliced ones in the special miso ramen. They were incredibly delicious, almost like eating some sweet vegetable, beyond my expectations. I wish I had added more green onions 😂.
Since I haven't tried miso ramen from other places, I find it hard to compare. However, Yamaoka's miso ramen is a tasty option that locals often enjoy. If you don’t know which place to choose, you might as well come here for some authentic and affordable miso ramen~
