This time in Okinawa, there was a bit of a silly but also cute incident—I originally had my sights set on eating at the famous Okinawan rice ball shop "ポーたま" (Pork Tamago Onigiri), the one that uses spam along with various fillings, mixed in a unique American-Okinawan style. However, due to my unfamiliarity with the geography and not paying close attention to the shop's name, I accidentally walked into a store called "ぽったま."
It wasn't until I returned to Taiwan and was sorting through my food notes that I realized... oh, I think I ate at the wrong place. The real "ポーたま" is the one that has a long line of people waiting, but this "ぽったま" actually has branches on the Japanese mainland as well, and it also specializes in Okinawan-style rice balls.
At that time, I ordered the chicken katsu tartar sauce flavor, and to be honest, it was quite delicious. The tartar sauce was just right, not too greasy, but rather refreshing, and the size of the rice ball was just enough to fill me up. The fillings were plentiful, and the sauce was well-prepared.
How should I put it... Even though I inadvertently missed out on my original target of that super popular restaurant, "ぽったま" actually performed quite well. Next time I go to Okinawa, I definitely have to wait in line to try the real "ポーたま."
