In the alley behind the Pingtung train station, there is a highly popular old-fashioned stone hot pot restaurant. From the outside, it doesn't look too impressive, but during meal times it is always crowded. It's a go-to spot for many locals who have been enjoying their food for over ten years, and I myself have visited countless times.
Their broth is made by sautéing onions before adding stock, resulting in a flavor that strikes a balance between light and rich—delicious. The fridge is stocked with a wide variety of hot pot ingredients, including vegetables, mushrooms, fish balls, seafood, and tofu skin, all priced at just 40 NT dollars per plate.
The meat selection consists of traditional hot pot slices, simple yet satisfying. The dining environment is basic and clean, with air conditioning in the summer making it quite comfortable, plus free red tea for unlimited refills, which is a nice touch.
If you happen to be near the Pingtung train station and are looking for a place to eat well without breaking the bank, I highly recommend you come here to give it a try. It may lack extravagant decor, but it offers the most genuine hot pot flavors.
