Yayoi, originating from Japan, is a restaurant specializing in Japanese set meals. It was established in Tokyo in 1886 under the original name of めしや丼, and was renamed やよい軒 in 2006. In 2014, it opened its first branch in Taiwan (Nanjing-Songjiang branch), and currently, there are a total of 24 branches in Taiwan.
Today, I visited the third branch opened in 2015: the Qizhang branch, located on the second floor of Youyou Era at Qizhang MRT Station. After exiting from Exit 1, there are escalators and elevators. I have personally dined here many times since its opening. The Qizhang branch will be reopening in October 2024 after renovations. The seating arrangement in the restaurant remains largely unchanged, still featuring four-person seats mainly in high-backed booths, with a few two-person seats and single chairs. The overall decor uses a lot of wood tones, with a simple style and comfortable space.
Upon entering, a staff member guided me to a seat. I viewed the paper menu and ordered via the iPad at the table, and settled the bill after dining. The invoice has a digital transport option and service charge is applicable. Today, I brought my child for a meal, and there is no minimum order requirement.
The meal I ordered is from the limited-time wellness hot pot series:
🔸 Hearty Vegetable and Chicken Hot Pot Set Meal $430
The main dish features a rich chicken bone broth, which includes tofu, greens, radish, and mushrooms, all very mild ingredients. The highlight is the many pieces of chicken thigh, each at a size perfect for eating, with a tender texture and just the right seasoning.
Next to it is the set meal pairing: Taiwanese Koshihikari rice (years ago they used Japanese gold sprout rice; I do not know when it was switched to Taiwanese rice, but this rice was perfectly cooked with no flaws), a small plate of cold dishes, pickled radish, and dipping sauce.
I paired the main dish with two bowls of white rice, and the broth made the rice slightly salty, keeping me wanting more. The white rice, miso soup, and pickles can all be refilled infinitely (also ordered via the tablet), and I ended up having another bowl of rice with the pickles.
Today's meal was very satisfying, though the price was a bit high. I used an Ocard member discount coupon for the new hot pot, and with a 10% service charge, the final amount was $415.
