Located in downtown Auckland, New Fusion Café is a Hong Kong-style restaurant that is popular among Chinese locals and international students. The decor of the restaurant is simple and unpretentious, featuring a nostalgic vibe unique to Hong Kong tea restaurants, with walls plastered with photos of various dishes and special menus.

This time, I ordered the chicken leg rice. When it was served, the aroma was enticing, and the golden-brown skin of the chicken leg was crispy while the meat was tender. The oiliness was complemented by a subtle sweetness of the sauce. The rice was slightly soft but enhanced its flavor by absorbing the chicken fat and sauce. While it may not be extraordinarily exquisite in terms of refinement, overall it has that familiar homey feeling.

What impressed me the most was the price. In price-hiking New Zealand, a steaming hot main dish for just over ten New Zealand dollars is almost unbeatable. The same portion size elsewhere might cost nearly double.

Overall, while the dishes may not be breathtaking, they shine in portion size and affordability, making it satisfying to eat in a city with high living costs. For travelers longing for Asian flavors but not wanting to break the bank, this place is definitely a reliable and practical choice.
