The hand-shaken drink shop I frequented the most during high school was right outside our school gate, and the boss's hidden menu always managed to satisfy the quirky tastes of students like us.
In terms of the ingredients and taste of the drinks themselves, I wouldn't say they were particularly delicious or made of especially good materials, but at least they had an average standard. However, with the addition of the hidden menu and its location in a gathering place for tutoring schools, there was often a long line for buying drinks during mealtime.
The hidden menu featured items like "Nuclear Waste," "Little Green," "Pikachu," "Heartache," and "Ultimate Invincible Duo Duo Green," etc. The ones that impressed me the most were the latter two. "Heartache" is a cup of ice water that costs 50 NT dollars. Keep in mind that 50 NT dollars was quite a lot ten years ago! 😂 "Ultimate Invincible Duo Duo Green" involves putting a bottle of Yakult into green tea; you have to poke the straw into the bottle of Yakult to successfully drink a bottle of Duo Duo Green. These creative ideas made drinking beverages a much more interesting experience.
So every time I return to Yi Zhong Street, I feel like getting a drink to commemorate those fun high school memories.
