Nanfeng Braised Pork Rice is located in the Lingya/Ziqiang Night Market area of Kaohsiung City, with the nearest MRT station being Sanduo Shopping District Station, Exit 7, which is about a 13-minute walk, or you can walk about 10 minutes from the Guangrong Pier Light Rail Station.
The shop is at the corner of the street, with the cooking area beside the corridor, where you can see a long queue for takeout. There are plenty of seats for dining in, and the space is fairly spacious. After being seated, you take the paper menu, fill it out, and hand it to the staff. After serving the dishes, you settle the bill at your seat, and only cash is accepted with no invoice provided.
The dishes are served very quickly, and the prices are too cheap for people from Taipei. The three-layer pork in the braised pork rice is large in portion and not too greasy, and the rice is drizzled with meat sauce, with pickled mustard greens on the side for added flavor, making it delicious.
The fish belly rice consists of a whole piece of boneless milkfish belly with white rice, shredded bamboo shoots, and cabbage. The fish belly is large and braised to be fragrant and tender, but a bit on the salty side. The bitter melon soup is the kind commonly found in snack shops; it has a slight bitterness from the bitter melon, and there is a good amount of meat in the middle.
I also ordered a plate of braised cabbage, dried bamboo shoots, and braised eggs, all of which were reliably tasty, leaving me very satisfied after finishing my meal. The whole table was quite filling, and for one person, it cost less than $150, which is fantastic!
