Lin Family Shark Blubber is located in the Yan San Night Market in the Datong District and is a well-known old brand in Taipei, often praised online as the most delicious shark blubber in Taipei.
Today, I took away one serving of mixed shark blubber and one serving of my selected shark blubber, totaling 240 NT dollars. Prices have gone up; the days of getting a serving for 100 NT are long gone...
Takeout includes a packet of sauce, but I forgot whether wasabi is also included, as it wasn't in this takeout. However, it could be that I forgot to ask for it, so I prepared my own when I got home.
Mixed Shark Blubber:
The mixed shark blubber consists of all the parts of the menu that haven’t sold out yet. Each piece carries a unique smoky aroma, and the texture of the meat is tender and solid. While it's not always easy to taste every part distinctly, some are easier to differentiate. The gelatinous fish skin melts in your mouth, and different parts of the fish offer varied textures. Unfortunately, the fish gills were sold out that day, which is one of the most distinctive parts. The odor from this part is relatively strong, and its texture is quite interesting, but it may not be suitable to buy in a large portion at once. I forgot which part of the shark it was.
Selected Shark Blubber:
I chose the belly, fish belly, and bone meat, which I select based on my mood and what hasn’t sold out that day. The belly is just standard shark blubber, but, although ordinary, it's undeniably a five-star deliciousness. The fish belly has a unique elasticity and freshness that makes each bite surprising. As for the bone meat, it’s well-known that sharks are cartilaginous animals. Although the bones are somewhat hard, the texture and chewiness will definitely leave a lasting impression on diners.
Overall, this is one stall at Yan San Night Market that you absolutely must not miss. There is an indoor dining area, but it’s just basic for a night market—seats are narrow and the environment has the typical night market vibe.
The owner is very friendly, and the shop posts its days off on Facebook every month. If you happen to pass by the Yan San area on your way home, or if you can keep it at a low temperature during your journey, it's definitely worth making a special trip for a takeaway.
Highly recommended for everyone!
