One of the joys of traveling is stumbling upon a great restaurant without doing any prior research!
"New Sushi Center Harukiya, Ura Namba Branch" is located in the Shinsaibashi Doguyasuji shopping street, right near Osaka's Namba Station. We discovered this place while waiting in line at the ramen shop "NEXT SHIKAKU" across the street, and saw that this restaurant also had a line, so we quietly added it to our list.
Originally, we planned to visit again the next time we come to Osaka, but since we had a little free time before heading to the airport, we decided to go for it!
We arrived at around 1 PM on January 5th, and there were two groups waiting at the entrance (you write your name and the number of people on a waiting list at a table outside, with the option to choose outdoor seating). We chose outdoor seating, and to our surprise, the staff came out right away to show us to our table without any wait—luckily!
The staff proactively provided a Chinese menu and another QR code, which made ordering very convenient, as we could just scan the QR code to place our order! After eating, we just went inside to pay at the counter.
Tuna Sashimi Platter ¥1650
Before dining, I checked online reviews and found that this restaurant is known for its tuna, so I ordered a full sashimi platter. I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived; although the pieces were cut to a decent size, they were quite thick. The platter contained two different cuts of tuna, with different colors, likely the lean and fatty parts. The lean is a darker red and feels less fatty, while the fatty part has fine streaks of fat. I think both were delicious and equally good.
Grilled Salmon Sushi ¥330, Salmon Sushi (Orange Sauce) ¥330
The grilled salmon sushi was just delicious! Quite fresh, but the orange sauce didn’t really add much. It’s up to personal taste whether to order the ones with sauce.
Eel Sushi ¥242
It’s not very large, but it was also very tasty. If you like eel, you should order this!
Sea Bass Miso Soup ¥418
The miso soup was packed with ingredients, the fish was tender, and there were a lot of seaweed. Notably, there was a whole egg in it, which is something I rarely see in miso soup, so it was quite a surprise. This bowl of hot soup was delicious and worth ordering!
Japanese Omelette (Half) ¥418
I chose soy sauce and mayonnaise as the sauces. As a mayo lover, I definitely couldn’t miss it. However, the appearance was a bit different from what I imagined; it was more like a thick omelet drizzled with mayonnaise. Upon taking a bite, I found it was filled with shredded cabbage. It wasn’t bad to eat it with sashimi and sushi for a change of flavor, but I wouldn’t say it’s a must-order.
