A super popular dried fish ramen restaurant where locals start lining up before the doors open! They change their menu twice a day!
As soon as we got off the bus at our destination, we saw a long line and a stylish calligraphy sign at the entrance, mistaking it for a sushi place. Since we hadn’t had lunch yet, we decided to join the line 😂
After checking, it turned out to be a ramen shop, and a famous one at that! They announce the day's flavors on Instagram, and the lunch and dinner menus are even different! No wonder there are so many weekly reviews online.
Although there were about 10 people ahead of us, we got inside in about 15 minutes. In a traditional way, you order verbally from the staff and settle the bill at your seat after eating. They are also very welcoming if you want to order more at any time, and there aren't any special rules (you need to fill your own water at the entrance).
This time, I ordered the lobster and shrimp broth ramen. I’m not really used to the dried fish flavor, but this was a very rich shrimp taste. I thought it wasn’t too salty but very strong, to the point that I could drink it alone but not finish it 😂. If you’re not a big seafood fan, you might not be able to handle it.
The noodles in this bowl were thin, with a moderately firm texture. The menu mentioned that other flavors use different types of noodles. You can choose to reduce the noodle portion for a discount of 50 yen!
They don’t offer extra noodle services, but you can order dry mixed noodles, which the menu says are pre-seasoned with sauce for you to eat directly as a replacement. After going home, I found out that even the mixed noodle flavors change daily, and I regretted not trying it.
There are many famous ramen shops around Honmyoji, so if you enjoy dried fish ramen, be sure to save this one!
