Old Salt Store

The Yancheng District has been developed for a long time, with many old shops that have a rich history. According to online sources, the business started around 1934 and has been operating for over eighty years, approaching a century.

Along the entire street, there are three shops with similar names, "Popo Ice." According to online information, in the 23rd year of the Republic, the founder of "Popo Ice" opened the shop, and later, his two sons branched out. The name "Popo Ice" was passed down to the second son, Mr. Cai Xiong-shu, and his wife, and from then on, the third generation divided into the original shop and a flagship store.

There is some parking for scooters and paid cars in front of the shop, which makes parking somewhat challenging.

The dining area is located at the entrance of the shop and in the passageway, with a high level of cleanliness. The tables do not feel sticky; they are very clean.

They offer beverages, hot drinks, and their specialty desserts. This time, we enjoyed sweet potato and red bean soup, as well as burnt grass jelly. After eating the red bean soup, the sweetness of the burnt grass jelly seemed a bit lacking, and overall, there weren't too many toppings. There are also grilled mochi available at the entrance, and I’ll have to try their desserts next time.
