❤️ Mingxiang Pig Troton is one of the delicacies at the Nanji Night Market. The pig troton (pig knuckle rice) here is famous for its tender and flavorful pig knuckles. However, there is a peculiar rule in the establishment—no outside food is allowed.

📍 This is a central area within the Nanji Night Market. The restaurant provides a decent number of seats (shared with the nearby two delight stalls) but does not offer restrooms. Customers can use the restrooms provided by the heartwarming stores in the night market for free.
🚗 It is recommended to park at the nearby Xinhe Courtyard Station (40 TWD/hour), or at the slightly farther Juguang Multi-Story Parking Lot (20 TWD/hour) and Xinhe Elementary School underground parking (30 TWD/hour).
🏍️ For scooters, it is advised to park in the motorcycle parking slots in front of Zhongyi Elementary School, or in the nearby alley.

💬 Actually, Mingxiang is one of my favorite bento shops (please allow me to call it a bento, as it is basically pig knuckle slices + vegetables). I've been coming here to happily eat pig knuckle rice since my student days.

"Pig troton" refers to pig knuckles, and the term comes from a phonetic change. The pronunciation of "foot" sounds like "ka," and in Taiwanese, the word for "foot" is phonetically close to "high." Therefore, many people read "pig foot rice" as "pig troton rice" (some shops may also call it "Zhi Gao Rice").

The restaurant has a special rule where before placing an order, the staff informs customers that outside food cannot be brought in to consume at the tables (even if not consumed, it's not allowed), but drinks are permitted. This is likely to avoid customers bringing in a bunch of outside food to eat, given the abundance of snacks at the Nanji Night Market.

(But it still seems reasonable to handle outside food waste similar to places like Lai Lai Dumplings, allowing customers to take care of their own garbage, as there are just too many delicious small bites in this night market.)

🥩 Pork Knuckle Rice $110 The essence of this pork knuckle rice lies in its melt-in-your-mouth pork knuckle, made from freshly slaughtered pigs from the same day; they never use pigs from the day before (though I might not be able to tell the difference...). After being simmered for a long time, the flavor is rich but not greasy. The overall portion isn't large, but the accompanying rice is aromatic and each grain is distinct. The vegetables (braised bok choy) pair very well with the pork knuckle, and there's also a fried egg (which can cost over 15 Taiwan dollars if added outside), making the whole meal even more complete.
I love having pig's trotters, fried eggs, and white rice all together.
In-store location
Turning around, you can also see the boss lady preparing the meal.
The ubiquitous prohibition on eating out (and that applies to everything...)
Small dishes and soups
It also sells oyster omelets.
