【Foodholic Nako @ Kyoto, Japan】
"Saffron Saffron サフラン サフラン" is a Japanese Western-style restaurant. I added it to my list of must-try places in Kyoto after seeing it introduced in a YouTube video.
We arrived on Saturday around 1 PM and were able to be seated right away. However, the restaurant was filled with customers, so we were quite lucky not to have to wait.
The restaurant itself is in an old building, and the decor has a charming old Japanese style. There are seats on both the first and second floors. The first floor mainly has counter seats, while the second floor has regular tables and an area where you need to take off your shoes.
The menu is only in Japanese, so we used Google Translate to order. The staff's English wasn't very fluent, but they were friendly and cute.
Hamburger Steak + Fried Oyster Set Meal ¥1500
The hamburger steak is made from beef and has a strong beef flavor. It's moist and delicious, but towards the end, it feels a bit greasy.
There were only two fried oysters, but they were large, topped with tartar sauce, and super tasty—just to my liking! If I could do it again, I would probably just order the fried oyster set meal.
It came with a small bowl of spinach, lightly seasoned to taste the natural flavor of the vegetables, which was nice; next to it, the lettuce salad had a small portion of macaroni salad, which I absolutely loved—sweet and refreshing, it countered the richness of the meal.
This set meal also included a bowl of miso soup, which showed great sincerity. Not only was the soup hot and delicious, but it was also packed with ingredients, making it hard to tell whether it was soup or filling!
