[Foodholic Niko @ Jeju Island, South Korea]

"Olle Wang Galchi, a.k.a. King White Ribbon Fish" is located around the Olla Market in the southern part of Jeju Island, just diagonally across from a certain exit of the market. It’s quite easy to find, and the sign has a large man’s head, which is probably the King himself? Hahaha.

I came here because I saw someone recommend it on a blog. To cut to the chase, after eating here, I found both the grilled and spicy braised white ribbon fish to be really delicious! However, one downside is that there are a lot of fish bones!

This place has a Chinese menu and staff who can speak Chinese, so communication is very smooth~

Everyone here needs to order their own dish. We ordered the spicy braised white ribbon fish set + grilled white ribbon fish for ₩28,000. Not only did it come with spicy braised and grilled white ribbon fish, but there were also a bunch of side dishes, a seaweed soup, steamed egg, and a dessert after the meal. It was very generous!

The side dishes included shredded cabbage, small dried fish, cauliflower, konjac, kimchi, and sweet and spicy fish cake, and every single one was quite tasty. I almost finished all of them!

The seaweed soup and steamed egg were served hot and very delicious. After eating all of this, I was almost full, hahaha.

Now for the main event! Although the grilled white ribbon fish was only a small piece per person, it was definitely worth it because it was very tender and tasty. It was great even without any dipping sauce; it would have been even better if someone could help with the fish bones!

The spicy braised white ribbon fish was served in a large pot, and the fish was very tender, but this dish was extremely spicy. I found it to be quite hot, and I needed to drink cold water continuously just to have a few bites! Notably, the vegetables in the pot were very soft, and the kimchi, onions, and green onions inside were sweet and delicious!

For dessert, we had the famous grandmother’s rice cake from Jeju Island’s Olla Market. Since it was taken out from the freezer, the staff reminded us to let it thaw before eating. The flavor was a mixture of red bean and mugwort, and I personally liked the sweet part of the red bean, while the mugwort was just okay~
