"Sweet & Sour Kitchen Chongqing branch" is located near Zhongshan Station, about a 10-minute walk away, and there's also the Ningxia Night Market nearby.
This brunch and café opened in December 2024, and it has four floors. Each floor's design aligns beautifully with my aesthetic.
We were seated on the third floor, which has many vinyl records displayed. The lighting is slightly dim, creating a great atmosphere.
We dined at 11 AM on a Sunday, and the place was quite busy—it was almost full. If you plan to dine here, I strongly recommend making a reservation.
Dining time is limited to 2 hours, and the staff periodically checks in to refill water and remind you that your dining time is almost up, which can add a bit of pressure for the guests.
Sous-vide Chicken Breast Breakfast Set $400
Overall, I was quite satisfied with this brunch plate because it included all the ingredients I like: sous-vide chicken breast, bacon, roasted seasonal vegetables, mixed lettuce, a good egg, yogurt, sautéed wild mushrooms, and sourdough bread.
The portion of chicken breast was quite generous, and the meat was soft and tender enough to bite into—definitely not dry. However, I found it unfortunate that the doneness wasn’t perfect; some parts were still a bit bloody and undercooked.
The bacon had quite a bit of fat and was still soft when cooked, not the crispy hard type. The egg did have a slight oiliness.
The roasted seasonal vegetable was zucchini, which was very juicy. The sautéed wild mushrooms also suited my taste, with excellent seasoning—these two were my favorites! The mixed lettuce came with something like an oil and vinegar dressing, which was quite appetizing, and the lettuce was fresh.
For the egg, you could choose scrambled, soft-boiled, or poached; I opted for scrambled, which was cooked just right. It had that slightly runny texture, but the seasoning wasn’t evenly distributed, making some bites a bit salty.
You could upgrade the sourdough bread to a croissant for an extra $70, which I personally found a bit pricey, so I stuck with the original sourdough. The edges of the bread were a little dry and hard, making it difficult to bite into, but the rest was quite soft and nice!
The yogurt was a generous portion, with honey, nuts, and dried fruit added. It made a wonderful dessert after brunch—perfect for a sweet ending!
Dirty $150
I usually drink lattes, and this was my first time trying Dirty. It's served at room temperature, and I felt the coffee and milk ratio matched very well! The coffee and milk aromas were well-balanced, neither overpowering the other—it’s a coffee I really enjoyed! Although, it was a bit small in size!
Overall, I think this place is great for gatherings with friends; the food taste is above average, and the space has a strong design sense. I highly recommend it!
