The main store of this establishment is in Chenggong Township, Taitung. It started as a food truck run by a guy named A-Bei and has developed into a store, and they even opened a branch in Taitung City, although the main manager of the branch is a young mother.
Dongbanxiang is most famous for its rice pudding. The texture of their rice pudding is the most chewy I've ever tasted, almost like eating jelly; this is no exaggeration. Personally, I don't really like this texture because the rice puddings I've had before are closer to the more solid and rough version made with radish, where you can feel the coarse surface of the pudding with your tongue. However, theirs is really smooth. This comes down to subjective opinions on what texture is considered delicious.
Next, their garlic soy sauce is undeniably good; it is so fragrant that even after eating it at noon, I can still taste the aroma in my mouth before sleeping. So I highly recommend adding soy sauce when eating. You can really feel that the soy sauce is freshly made, not like the common garlic sauces found in factories.
As for the草仔粿 (grass rice cake), its base has the same chewiness as the rice pudding, but I can accept it for the grass rice cake because the fillings are different, so the suitable texture pairing is also different. This one is very delicious, thumbs up!
