Tao Yuan's Zhi Yi Shi Wu offers a hipster-style take on traditional Taiwanese snacks. The braised pork rice has tender fatty meat, but the lean meat is a bit dry. The pepper chicken soup is very fragrant and the portion is satisfying. The large wonton mixed noodles provide a strong sense of satisfaction, while the braised platter’s braised egg is on the dry side. Overall, the meals are good, but quality control needs to be monitored.
The restaurant has a hipster style, but the seating is a bit cramped and the environment is slightly stuffy. They offer free lemon iced tea and lemonade.
The crowd waiting in line at the venue is large, so dining will take longer.
🎉 Taoyuan's Artistic Taiwanese Snacks 🎉
🎉 Free unlimited iced tea for dine-in 🎉
Recently opened in Zhudong and Miaoli, the artistic Taiwanese brand: Pig 15 ✌️ has come to Taoyuan 🤤. The restaurant specializes in Taiwanese snacks and military village noodles, but with an artistic style that brings a new element to noodle shops‼️ Breaking the old feel of traditional snacks ☺️.
I arrived at the scene at 10:50 today—partly to make it easier for taking photos and partly because new restaurants tend to have more crowds 😆. There aren’t many seats inside, about a dozen tables for two or four, but because the space is somewhat narrow, it feels a bit crowded between seats 😂.
There were many people in line on-site; whether dining in or taking out, you have to wait longer during meal times 🥲.
Braised Pork Rice (75 NT$):
It looks very flavorful and delicious 🤤. The fatty part is very tender and tasty 😋, but the lean part seems a bit dry—like it didn't soak up the braising sauce, as if it had dried out on top. However, the separately ordered braised pork did not have this issue 😳.
Pepper Chicken Soup + Pig Stomach (75 + 40 NT$):
As soon as the chicken soup arrived 🤤, it was full of pepper aroma, and the broth has a slightly gelatinous texture, making it very tasty. The chicken leg is quite large 😳. Just when I thought I couldn't see the added pig stomach, when I scooped to the bottom of the bowl, the portion was also quite generous. This soup is highly recommended 👍👍👍.
Large Wonton Noodle (95 NT$):
The restaurant offers both large and small wontons, with a price difference of ten NT$, and we chose the large one. The wonton is the size of a Wenzhou large wonton, providing a satisfying bite 😋. The noodles are also available in thin and thick types, I chose thin noodles, but the noodle part was not particularly impressive, and the onion oil aroma was lacking a bit. The flavor is clearer and milder, but for those who like lighter tastes, it can be chosen 😂.
Lu Wei Platter (65 NT$):
It includes pig ears, braised eggs, dried tofu, and kelp. The pig ears were okay, the kelp was flavorful and tender, but I’m not sure what happened with the braised egg; the cut surface is quite dry. Maybe it’s been sitting out a bit too long? 😅
To summarize:
I think the food is actually quite good 😋, but they may need to pay attention to quality control; being a new shop, they might overlook many things 🥲. Also, although there is air conditioning inside, it’s not cool enough, so the dining experience can feel a bit stuffy 😅. However, there is free lemon iced tea and fresh lemonade available for dine-in 👍.
