🌟 The roast duck is definitely worth it; you could say it's currently the best in Tainan.
🌟 Five-star level service, highly recommended.
🌟 In the first half of 2024, I've eaten here twice and the overall experience has been fantastic.

I ate here twice in a short time 😂 because there was a birthday event at Wang Pin.

Introduction
“Xiang Ya,” created by the Wang Pin Group, is a Chinese restaurant brand that specializes in “roast duck” and “Chinese cuisine.” They insist on using cherry ducks that weigh about 2.6KG, with the best size and fat ratio, raised freely in the Huatung Valley for 75 days!

Xiang Ya is located on Nanmen Road in Tainan, and there are many parking spaces nearby, making it relatively convenient to park (depending on the situation). The restaurant is very spacious and bright, with great lighting thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows. The air conditioning is super cool, and I was most surprised by the bathroom, which not only has air conditioning but is also very clean - a truly high-end experience. (The building's design is corridor-style without any cover, so if it rains heavily, there is a risk of getting splashed, although Wang Pin does have awnings when it rains.)

The menu offers a wide variety of choices, with options for two, four, and six-person set meals that include half a roast duck - highly recommended!! For single orders, I suggest starting with half a roast duck.

Two-Person Meal 💰 1420
Signature crispy roast duck 💰 980
Accompaniments: sections of green onion, shredded cucumber, special sweet bean sauce, Xiang Ya's Sichuan pepper salt, seasonal dipping sauce (fruit-based), very cool!

The roast duck is essential; the chef skillfully demonstrates the duck carving at the table - perfect for taking pictures.

The first dish served is the duck skin dipped in white sugar. The thin, crispy duck skin paired with the rich fat perfectly reduces greasiness, and the granulated texture and crispy thinness are surprisingly refreshing (two pieces per person is just right, not too greasy).

Next are the processed slices of roast duck and three selected sauces, along with fresh green onion sections and shredded cucumber that can be wrapped in the pancake.

The combination of sweet bean sauce, green onion, and shredded cucumber is undoubtedly a classic that never goes wrong. I have to say that Xiang Ya's Sichuan pepper salt looks hot but is honestly very fragrant and flavorful - it has quickly become my favorite! I ended up eating sweet bean sauce + Sichuan pepper salt. The third seasonal option seems to be pineapple, and its sweet-sour taste depends on personal preference.

Roast Duck Conclusion: Tender meat and fragrant skin. (Much better than Tainan's Shangri-La 🥹)

Cold Dishes Trio
(Sichuan-style cucumber, golden pickled vegetables, fermented black fungus with fermented tofu)
The small cucumber is indeed a suitable side dish, refreshing and crispy.
The golden pickled vegetables are also very crunchy and spicy, appetizing.
The vinegar-shredded fungus has a memorable chewiness and slight sourness that is quite appetizing.

Kung Fu Duck Trio Platter
(Brown sugar flavored duck wings, sauce-stewed duck gizzards, sauce-stewed duck intestines)
I have to say many platters of this sort are quite ordinary, even unappetizing, but Xiang Ya’s is unexpectedly at a high level. The duck gizzards aren't dry or tough but tender, the duck intestines are crunchy, and the duck wings are fragrant and flavorful.

Stir-Fried Cabbage

Salted Egg Yolk Tofu Casserole
This dish is a must-try; if you like salted egg yolk, it’s fantastic! The tofu is soft and flavorful, and the texture of the casserole is thick and delicious, not overly starchy.

Cloud Shrimp and Scallop Dish (second time eating this)
The shrimp is delicious, but I feel this dish is more like a main course. The combination of egg, fresh shrimp, and shredded scallops resembles fluffy clouds but is solidly underpinned by a layer of crispy fried batter. Overall, the combination gives a quite intriguing texture. Honestly, I don’t quite understand the flavor of this dish.

Sour Cabbage Duck Frame Soup (Duck Frame Dish) 💰 +150
This dish also reacted quite differently; it might have been cooked with Sichuan pepper, which overwhelmed the flavor of the sour cabbage. I wasn't expecting the Sichuan pepper, so it was a bit of a surprise when I took a sip!

White Beard Milk Tea 💰 +20
I couldn’t finish this drink; it was overwhelmingly sweet. Personally, I feel it doesn’t pair well with the dishes - it's too strong.

Black Tea

Scallion Pancake Wrapped Duck Meat
Simply put, this is scallion pancake + duck meat + green onion.
To be honest, the first time I thought the pancake and duck meat were distinct; the duck had no flavor at all, and if someone told me it was pork, I’d believe it. However, the improvement from my second visit was amazing!!
(Wang Pin always asks for feedback, and I gave my opinion. I genuinely believe they are adjusting and improving - the service is really great.)

Sour Cabbage Sesame Lava Soup Dumplings
Originally, it was offered for check-in, but I provided feedback for the restaurant to treat me.
The fried dumplings were sprinkled with peanut powder and sour cabbage, filled with lots of sesame filling, and the sweet-salty taste combined perfectly, a surprisingly fresh flavor that was quite distinctive.

Birthday Cake
If it’s your birthday, the restaurant will give you a cute sesame ball in the shape of a duck.

Thoughts: Indeed, if you want to enjoy being served, it has to be at Wang Pin. The roast duck speaks for itself, and the tofu casserole is exceptionally great; the service really leaves a lasting impression, and the suggestions genuinely result in improvements.

If you value the dishes: The roast duck is fantastic, and the tofu casserole is also great.

If you value the environment: Spacious and bright, cool air conditioning, but keep in mind you might get splashed during rain.

If you value parking: Scooters can park at the entrance; cars can use the parking slots.

If you value the restroom: It's fantastic - they have air conditioning in the restroom!

If you value queue times: I recommend making a reservation.

If you value service: It’s excellent!

If you value cost-performance ratio: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
