There is a famous ice cream shop in Taichung, the branch of Gongyuan Ophthalmology. Although it is a bit farther from the Taichung train station, there are seats available for dining inside! On weekday afternoons, the store is about 80% full, and it's often fully booked on weekends.
The minimum spend is $100 per person, which can be combined, and there is no time limit for dining in.
They have an extensive variety of ice cream flavors. Besides the common ones like fruit, tea, and chocolate, there are also special flavors. If you show a student ID, you can get a free scoop, which is a great deal (✪ω✪)!
Most people who come here end up upgrading to a sundae, which includes a waffle cup, butterfly cookies, and toppings (two types), along with a small scoop of lemon ice cream. It’s sweet and tangy, and has a somewhat sandy texture.
This time, I chose flavors like green tea, yellow moon on a hazy night (osmanthus and oolong tea), and shining days (Assam black tea, rosemary, lavender). The sweetness of all the flavors is within an acceptable range. Their tea flavors are very rich, so tea lovers definitely need to order those. So far, I haven’t encountered any duds with pure tea flavors. The special flavor of osmanthus oolong is quite a common combination, and it balances floral and tea aromas very well. However, the shining days flavor has a stronger spice taste, which I didn’t particularly like.
