Located on the second floor of the Jiashou Market in Matsu's Nangan, this long-established youtiao (fried dough stick) shop is not large, and its decor can hardly be called modern. However, the air is filled with the aroma of youtiao and soy milk, bringing a warm and nostalgic sense of reassurance. The main offerings here are traditional rice balls wrapped with youtiao and freshly ground rich soy milk.

Visually, the rice balls may not seem huge, but they have a substantial weight when held. You can watch the owner wrapping them on-site, where golden youtiao is enveloped in steaming rice, garnished with a bit of pickled vegetables, meat floss, and sauerkraut. The youtiao is the soul of this place—it's not hard or overcooked, but rather crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, slightly chewy, and it doesn’t scrape the mouth. Instead, it combines tightly with the rice, allowing you to experience the interplay of oil and rice fragrance in every bite. The rice is cooked just right; it’s sticky but not overly mushy, embodying the simple flavor that traditional rice balls should have.

As for the soy milk, it has a strong bean flavor and offers a natural bean aroma with a hint of sweetness. It’s not too watery nor overly seasoned, leaving you feeling warm and satisfied after drinking it.

Overall, the taste of this youtiao and rice ball shop isn’t shocking or spectacular but rather comforting and nostalgic. If you come to Nangan, it’s worth getting up early to take a trip to Jiashou Market and feel the warmth of the most local breakfast.
