Located on San Duo 1st Road in Kaohsiung, "Affordable Quality Hotpot" is a small shop that specializes in budget-friendly hotpot. The environment is clean, and the seating arrangement is relatively spacious. However, the overall portion sizes are on the lighter side. This time I ordered a stinky hotpot, and to my surprise, the broth was very clear, without the typical satay sauce added. It looked quite strange; it was my first time trying stinky hotpot, but paired with clear broth 😆.
The ingredients used by the restaurant are fresh, especially the vegetables, and even the scallions used as toppings were handled very well, which left a good impression. However, the portion sizes are indeed a bit small. It is just right for women, but men may feel it is not enough and might need to eat a few bowls of rice to feel full.
This time I also tried their spicy duck blood, but it was not spicy at all; the chili oil was minimal. Although it's not impressive, it is still acceptable. Interestingly, if you order an additional egg, the staff will crack it for you directly instead of handing you an egg in the shell🥚, which is quite unique. Additionally, the add-on egg only costs 10 TWD, which is very affordable given the current egg prices, especially compared to other places that charge 15 or 20 TWD for an egg.
Overall, Affordable Quality Hotpot is a good budget option, especially suitable for those looking to have a simple hotpot meal. However, if there are higher demands for ingredient portions, it might require more consideration.
