Afternoon Tea1 ppl$120

📍Coordinates: Taichung, Taiwan

Visiting the famous “Tea 3000” on a holiday afternoon is practically a suicide mission. The shop is packed from the first floor to the second, with people sitting everywhere. The third floor is a reservation-only space for tasting tea and the rooftop tea garden, which is less crowded since there is nowhere to sit, allowing you to appreciate the elegant decor and atmosphere a little more.

Especially the rooftop tea garden is quite impressive; it's rare to see such a large tea garden created indoors. If you come here, you might as well head upstairs to check it out while you wait for your drinks since the wait can be quite long anyway.

In addition to serving drinks, the store also offers a free tea tasting experience. On weekends, expect to wait at least an hour for drinks. It’s recommended to grab a number for the tea tasting as soon as you enter, then queue up slowly to decide what to drink. This way, you're waiting for your drink and the tasting experience simultaneously, which saves time 😂. This time, my friends and I managed our time quite well; we finished the tea tasting just as our drinks were ready 👍.

For drinks, we ordered:

  • Cassia Seed Red Oolong + Royal Thick Milk (+ Royal Pearls $0, no sugar, no ice, $120)

✨ Here’s a little tip for budget-conscious customers: I suggest joining the “Tea 3000” membership before ordering; they offer some drink discount coupons. If you visit during your birthday month, they also give a free coupon for Royal Pearls, which you can use immediately. A drink isn’t cheap, so a discount is helpful!

Next to the counter, there’s a tea tasting area. Since I love the scent of Cassia Seed Red Oolong, I chose this tea with thick milk to make a milk tea. The thick milk has a strong flavor, which somewhat overshadows the tea taste; it’s a bit of a pity. Opting for straight tea might let you better enjoy the floral notes. The pearls have a nice chewiness, but overall, it tastes just average; perhaps I didn’t pick a particularly good drink 🥺.

Considering the tea tasting experience paired with the drink, I think it’s quite a good value. Besides spending too much time waiting, the experience part is quite nice. However, if you exclude the experience, just the drinks are really on the pricey side. This time I came along with friends who hadn’t been before, otherwise, I wouldn’t have come specifically to buy them. But for those who haven’t been, I still highly recommend coming if you get the chance.

During holidays, there are many people, so it's recommended to avoid it.
The drink options include a branded tote bag or a pillowcase. The branded tote bag is really eye-catching, but in the end, I didn't choose it.
Jujube Red Oolong + Royal Thick Milk and Royal Pearls, size M.
Not choosing a brand shopping bag means that the cup sleeve with a hemp rope has a good texture and can be reused.
The tea tasting experience follows a standardized process based on a competitive format, presented to everyone.
The narrator will also briefly demonstrate the tea-making process, and there are tea leaves being roasted inside, filling the space with the aroma of tea.
There are five types of tea leaves with different roasting levels for everyone to choose from. The arrangement from early dawn to late night is just right, ranging from light roast to heavy roast.
Strictly control the grams of tea leaves, temperature, and time to ensure that each cup of tea is brewed under a unified standard condition.
Teas with different roasting levels have different colors. My friends unanimously agree that the medium roast Asahi is the best, as it brings out the natural fragrance of the tea leaves.
I chose the one with the longest roasting time, the Ye Lan, which has a similar strong flavor to other heavily roasted teas.
