【Foodholic Naoko @ Jeju Island, Korea】
"Seongjidan" is a well-known chain of black pork barbecue restaurants on Jeju Island, featuring fancy high-end decor and ambiance. Nearly everyone traveling to Jeju Island will plan to have a meal at Seongjidan.
There seem to be about 4.5 branches of Seongjidan on the island, but when we were checking for branches, we completely missed this specific one. We discovered it on Naver, so we came to try it. The location is super hidden; even before we reached the entrance, we were doubting if it had closed down or if we had the wrong location since it’s next to a heroic tomb XD.
However, because of this, there weren't many customers. We arrived exactly at noon during the lunch rush, and not only was the parking lot huge with almost no cars, but we also didn’t have to wait in line and were seated right away, which was delightful. I highly recommend everyone visit this branch!
PS: This branch does not have staff grilling for you; you have to grill it yourself~
For limited meats, like the 960, you don’t have to worry about them being sold out~
(People who have done their research previously shared that to eat at Seongjidan, you should go right when they open for lunch, otherwise the limited meats easily sell out. If you go in the evening, there’s almost none left.)
The staff recommended we order the basic meats, which are the 720 pork neck and belly, each portion being 200g, priced at ₩22,000. We also ordered the 960 bone-in meat, which is 300g and priced at ₩36,000.
I think the basic meats are already quite delicious, but when we got to the 960, I really understood why it's the limited meat. Whether eaten alone, with sauce, or wrapped in lettuce, it was all so tasty; the fat was balanced perfectly, with no flaws in the meat whatsoever~
We ordered three portions of meat to share, and along with the small side dishes that come with it, we were quite full, so we didn’t order cold noodles or soup.
For the lettuce, in addition to the usual greenery, they also provided some cabbage, which tasted sweet, and alternating between them was quite nice.
As for the side dishes, one notable one was a sauce mixed with what I think was either snail or beef, but I found it a bit salty, so I stopped after a few bites.
There was also a pot of cold soup with a huge piece of pickled radish in it; I wasn’t sure if we were supposed to cut it ourselves or what. The soup tasted a bit like cold pickled vegetable soup, but it wasn’t to our liking, so we left it untouched.
Overall, the meat at Seongjidan is really delicious, and the lettuce and side dishes they provide feel fresh and clean. I would recommend everyone to try it~
