Located within the old street at Sun Moon Lake's Ita Thao Pier is a store specializing in Assam black tea. Outside, in addition to a pile of tea bags and tea leaves, there are also tea-flavored egg rolls (not sure if they’re from the same store as the drinks). Passing by with friends, we tried a sample and saw freshly made hand-shaken tea, so we couldn’t resist buying some.
▪️ Tieguanyin Oolong Tea $40, no sugar, no ice
Very fragrant and delicious! However, I think it's a bit too strong to drink on its own, and it would be better paired with a dessert or something. The tea flavor is really aromatic, and you can taste both Tieguanyin and Oolong, which is quite cool together—it's not exactly a match but doesn’t feel out of place either.
▪️ No. 18 Ruby Red Tea with Pineapple $75
Since we drank a lot of pure tea, my friend wanted to try a different combination. This one has a fixed sweetness level and is served without ice. It might be because it’s without ice, but the pineapple sauce felt a bit too sweet; even with the tea, the sweetness couldn't be subdued. In the end, adding other teas helped a bit. It seems like the pineapple is home-made, which is quite fragrant, but it's just too sweet.
Overall, coming here means everyone has a cup of red tea in hand. If you want to try some special combinations, you can give it a shot. The pure tea is okay too, but since there are many shops in the area, you don’t really have to specifically buy from this one, so I probably wouldn’t particularly want to visit again.
