Bubble tea shops, which rose in central and southern Taiwan in the 20th century, influenced the later development of hand-shaken beverages.
The most typical example is the couple Huang Puguang, who later created "Koi," and participated in promoting the first wave of hand-shaken beverages in Taiwan. They started by opening a bubble tea shop near Taichung Park in the early 1980s. Later, this led to the emergence of numerous competing brands of hand-shaken drinks, each with its unique specialties such as various pearl milk teas and fruit-based hand-shaken drinks.
