Healing a chilly afternoon with coffee and desserts by the riverside at Kitahama
Kitahama is located in the northern part of Osaka, Japan, positioned between Umeda and Shinsabashi. It’s a great riverside area for a stroll with places like Nakanoshima Park, Osaka Central Public Hall, and the Oriental Ceramics Museum, along with many cafes. If you're tired of other attractions in Osaka, this is a perfect spot to just relax with a cup of coffee.
“MOTO COFFEE” is a very popular cafe in the Kitahama area. It's conveniently located right across from the exit of Kitahama Station. The overall decor is fresh, using wooden textures and a lot of white in its design. The café has three floors, but the indoor space isn’t very large.
We came specifically for the outdoor terrace seating, right by the riverside with a view of Nakanoshima Park. Although it was quite cold that day, the café kindly provided heaters and blankets, making it enjoyable despite the chill, thanks to the beautiful scenery and delicious food.
P.S. Since this café is quite famous, there’s usually a wait. Upon arriving, you first enter the first floor to use the self-service ticket machine to reserve a spot. You can choose indoor or outdoor seating (or both). We opted for outdoor seating and waited about half an hour, which was acceptable.
Tiramisu ¥600
It has a strong alcohol flavor, which the staff warned about when ordering, but it doesn’t detract from the deliciousness. It’s still very tasty, although the cake portion is quite small, with most of it being cream.
Grilled Cream Toast ¥500
It’s delicious in a very standard way; you must eat it while it’s hot, as it can get cold quickly when seated outdoors in winter.
Hot Latte ¥630
The coffee tastes average, not bad but nothing special. However, for around 130 TWD for a latte, enjoying this riverside view feels incredibly worth it in my opinion.
